Del Mar, CA–The board governing the 22nd District Agricultural Association voted Tuesday to terminate CEO Carlene Moore after six years in the role, officials announced.
The decision took effect immediately. Board members also unanimously appointed Chairman Sam Nejabat to serve as interim CEO for a 10-day period while they consider longer-term leadership plans.
Nejabat, a businessman and former public official, joined the board in 2019 and was elected chair in September 2025 for a one-year term. His prior government experience includes serving as Assistant Deputy Director of External Affairs at the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development from 2020 to 2023, followed by a role as senior advisor to the California Attorney General at the California Department of Justice from 2023 to 2024.
The vote occurred during a closed executive session at the board’s regular monthly meeting. Nejabat announced the decision upon returning to open session.
