SAN DIEGO–Hundreds of women of all ages and biking abilities will gather on September 23 to celebrate female ridership in San Diego.
The second annual Women Ride IB will inspire and empower more women to get on their bikes with an inclusive ride in Imperial Beach, ending with a bike festival featuring women-owned and -operated companies.
“Following our half day Women’s Summit in June, Women Ride IB provides another opportunity to promote and celebrate female ridership in San Diego,” says Bike Coalition Program Coordinator Skii Fleeton. “With these women-focused events, we want to build a community where all genders, ages and abilities can feel empowered to use biking as an everyday form of transportation and enjoyment.”
Women Ride IB will take off starting around 10 a.m. and roll through Imperial Beach, Chula Vista and National City – encouraging riders of all genders, ages and abilities to join in on the fun. Riders have the choice of an 18-mile road route from Imperial Beach’s Bikeway Village to National City or a 10-mile trail route through Otay Valley Regional Park led by female staff from San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and the San Diego Mountain Biking Association.
After soaking in the scenic sights on both routes, riders can enjoy a post-ride celebration featuring women-owned and-operated bike companies and wineries at the Bikeway Village. By pedaling along the female-powered ride, participants will raise funds for the San Diego Bike Coalition to invest in more education programs dedicated to women and family bicycling in San Diego.
