Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship applications available

By SDCN Staff

Oceanside, CA–Applications for the 2026 City of Oceanside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship programs are available at local high schools, Oceanside Public Library, and the city’s website.

Any graduating high school senior who lives in Oceanside and will attend college after graduation is eligible to apply, regardless of what high school the student attends. The scholarship program has no racial, ethnic, gender or other arbitrary criteria; residency in Oceanside, a high school senior graduating Spring 2026 and plans to attend college are the only requirements to apply. There are additional required documents (i.e. school transcripts, letters of recommendation) that must be submitted with the application. Students may contact the scholarship coordinator at their high school or visit the city’s website for information about the program and application forms. The deadline for submission of applications is April 15.

Last year, the scholarship program awarded $100,000 to 17 students, bringing the grand total of $1,360,500 given to 440 students since the first scholarships were awarded in 1993. All funds for the program come from community donations; no public monies are used for the scholarships.

The 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. scholarship recipients will be introduced to donors at the annual scholarship garden reception on May 22. Outside of direct donations, this is the only fundraising event for the scholarship program.

For more information about the scholarship program, call (760) 435-5042 or email mlkscholarship@oceansideca.org.

The scholarship application and additional information is available on the City of Oceanside website under Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Program.
