ENCINITAS–Nine pallets of canned and dry cat food arrived at Rancho Coastal Humane Society early Friday afternoon.
The cat food was distributed at no cost to three local, nonprofit cat rescue groups on a first come – first served basis Saturday morning. The food is donated through Rescue Bank, operated by Greater Good.org, a non-profit organization that supports animal rescue and rehabilitation groups by providing services and supplies.
“This brings our food distribution since the beginning of the COVID 19 crisis to nearly 80,000 pounds. Under normal circumstances the rescue groups would pay for shipping,” Rancho Coastal Humane Society President Judi Sanzo said. “Rescue Bank tells us the cost of this shipment has been paid. This food is absolutely free to qualified cat rescue organizations.”
There are about 200 pet rescue groups in San Diego county. Greater Good and Rescue Bank selected Rancho Coastal Humane Society to help feed animals waiting to be adopted.
