Santa Ana, CA–The Santa Ana Police Department is urging residents to remain alert after receiving reports of a large, venomous snake believed to be a Gaboon viper in a residential neighborhood in Orange County.
According to police, the snake was last seen in a tree near Main Street and Edinger Avenue. It is estimated to be approximately 4 to 5 feet long.
Gaboon vipers are highly venomous and are not native to North America, police said.
Residents are urged to be aware of their surroundings and not approach or attempt to handle the snake if it is spotted.
Anyone who sees the snake is asked to contact the Santa Ana Police Department’s non-emergency line at (714) 834-4211 and provide its location.
Police are asking residents to use caution until the snake is located.
