Riverside, CA–Nearly two decades after the fatal shooting of two brothers in Moreno Valley, California, Riverside prosecutors have charged a local man with their murders.
The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that Richard Ferris, 50, of Moreno Valley, faces two counts of first-degree premeditated murder in connection with the killings of Louie Joseph Granado, 25, and Glenn Michael Granado, 34.
Ferris appeared in Riverside County Superior Court on Aug. 6 for arraignment, but the hearing was postponed at the request of his defense attorney. He is scheduled to return to court Aug. 19 in the Hall of Justice.
According to prosecutors, the criminal complaint includes sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a firearm and a special circumstance allegation of committing multiple murders, which could make Ferris eligible for the most severe penalties under California law.
On January 29, 2006, Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunfire near Pepper Court and John F. Kennedy Drive. The Granado brothers were found inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Central Homicide and Cold Case units identified Ferris as a suspect early in the investigation. New evidence surfaced in recent months, leading detectives to arrest Ferris without incident in Boyle Heights on July 31.
Prosecutors say the investigation remains ongoing.
