San Diego, CA–A Coast Guard boarding team assigned to the 87-foot Marine Protector-class Coast Guard Cutter Haddock (WPB 87347) intercepted ten suspected migrants aboard a vessel approximately 27 miles east of San Clemente Island on Friday afternoon, Coast Guard officials said.
Crew members aboard the Haddock observed a suspicious 20-foot cuddy cabin vessel and deployed a boarding team to conduct an investigation.
Team members approached the vessel and gained compliance without the use of force. The suspected migrants were identified, all claiming Mexican nationality.
They were detained and transferred to the U.S. Border Patrol agents at Ballast Point.
