ANAHEIM–Anaheim city officials Thursday has committed to a thorough, impartial investigation of Tuesday’s physical confrontation involving an off-duty Los Angeles police officer and a juvenile male. Mayor Tom Tait said.
“Like many in the community, I’ve seen the video and I’m very concerned about what it shows,” Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait said. “Anaheim is committed to a full and impartial investigation. Our city will move forward without delay.”
On Wednesday afternoon around 2:40 p.m., an off-duty LAPD officer was involved in a confrontation in front of his residence with several juveniles.
The confrontation began over ongoing issues with juveniles walking across the officer’s property. During the confrontation, a 13-year-old male is alleged to have threatened to shoot the off-duty officer, at which time the officer attempted to detain the male until Anaheim police officers arrived. This led to a physical confrontation between the off-duty officer and several other juveniles. During the confrontation the officer discharged his firearm one time. The circumstances surrounding the discharge of the firearm are being investigated by the Anaheim Homicide Detail.
The 13 year old male was booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall for criminal threats and battery. A 15-year-old male was arrested for assault and battery and was released to his parents.
The case will be presented to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office when it is completed. The names of the involved parties have not been released
The Los Angeles Police Department is conducting its own internal investigation into the actions of the officer.
