Carlsbad, CA–A female electric bicyclist seriously injured after she was struck by a vehicle in a traffic collision in Carlsbad has died from her injuries, Carlsbad Police Department said Monday.

On August 7, Carlsbad police responded to a report at about 5:45 p.m. of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and an electric bicycle. 

Officers found a 35-year-old woman electric bike cyclist injured near the intersection of Basswood Avenue and Valley Street. Traveling on the electric bicycle with the woman was a 16-month-old female child. The child did not appear to be injured, Carlsbad Police spokesperson Jodee Reyes said.

The driver of the Toyota 4-Runner, a 42-year-old woman, remained at the scene.

The cyclist was transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries. The child was also transported as a precaution. 

Drugs or alcohol are not considered to be a factor in the collision, authorities said.
