VISTA–The suspect accused of the fatal shooting of a Vista woman at an apartment complex last month was arraigned in Vista court.
On August 16, Estevan Montelongo, 41, was returned to San Diego by the District Attorney’s Office, to face a murder charge, for the shooting death of 28-year-old Michelle Hashtani.
Montelongo was charged with murder of Hashtani. He was remanded to custody without bail.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has conducted an autopsy and determined her cause of death was a gunshot wound.
On July 22, just before 3 p.m., Vista Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call after residents reported a shooting and “woman down” inside the pool area of the apartment complex in the 600 block of Ascot Drive, in the City of Vista. When deputies arrived, they found a woman unresponsive and lying on the ground. She was seriously wounded and had visible injuries to her head. Paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital.
On July 24, the suspect was located and arrested by Pueblo, Colorado police officers, pursuant to a San Diego county arrest warrant for attempted murder.
