Infant’s death under investigation

By Gina Yarbrough

San Diego, CA–The County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified an infant found unconscious in a vehicle and later pronounced dead at a hospital in Santee, authorities said.

The victim has been confirmed as two-month-old Diana Sofia Aleman Roman. The official cause and manner of her death are pending further investigation, including forensic, laboratory, and toxicology analyses.

Preliminary reports indicate that the family returned home at around 3 p.m. on June 12. It wasn’t until shortly after midnight on June 13 that a family member discovered the infant unresponsive inside the SUV and called 9-1-1. Deputies and paramedics arrived on the scene and immediately performed life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, the baby was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Sheriff’s Child Abuse Unit at (858) 285-6222. After hours, information can be reported through the Sheriff’s Department non-emergency line at (858) 868-3200.
