Pedestrian killed in Chula Vista traffic collision

By Gina Yarbrough

Chula Vista, CA–The Chula Vista Police Department is investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred Thursday night, according to authorities.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash shortly after 9 p.m. near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Naples Street. When officers arrived, they found that a silver 2013 Toyota Rav4 had struck a pedestrian in the number two southbound lane of Fourth Avenue, just south of Naples Street.

The driver, a 72-year-old Chula Vista resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was not injured in the incident.

Emergency personnel provided lifesaving aid to the adult male pedestrian, who was then transported to a local trauma center. Despite efforts to save him, the pedestrian later died from his injuries.

At this time, police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. The exact cause remains under investigation, and the identity of the pedestrian has not yet been released.

The Chula Vista Police Department’s Traffic Bureau is leading the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has additional information is urged to contact the Traffic Bureau at (619) 476-5321.
