Jamul, CA–A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of his mother at their home in East County Friday, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a distress call around 1:33 p.m. in the 14400 block of Hillside Estates Drive in Jamul. The call, initially from fire department paramedics, sought assistance in light of a disturbing incident.

While treating the victim, identified as 77-year-old Vicki Bodle, medics observed signs of a severe physical assault. She was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and is currently in critical condition.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they launched an investigation, leading to the detention of the victim’s 53-year-old son, Travis Bodle. No other individuals were present at the residence, and no additional victims were reported.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives were called in to further probe the incident, ultimately resulting in the arrest of Bodle. He has been charged with attempted murder and is in custody at the San Diego Central Jail.

As the investigation continues, the motivation and circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
