SAN DIEGO–The San Diego County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and completed their reports on the death of an inmate at a South County prison.

The cause of death was the toxic effects of fentanyl with a contributing cause of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The manner of death was determined to be accidental, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner.

On November 3, just after 3 p.m., deputies at the George Bailey Detention Facility responded to assist an inmate, 41-year-old Omar Hasenin, when he was found unresponsive in his cell.

Deputies and medical staff performed lifesaving measures until relieved by fire department personnel. Hasenin was pronounced dead at the facility.

Hasenin was booked into custody by the San Diego Police Department on September 4, for the charges of burglary, receiving stolen property under $950, and violation of parole.

The Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit responded to investigate the death. No evidence of foul play was discovered.
