Alan James

JACUMBA HOT SPRINGS–Sheriff’s deputies along with the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force went door to door in the Jacumba Hot Springs and Boulevard areas Thursday to inform the communities about a Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) who will be living in their neighborhood.

Alan James is scheduled to move to 45612 Old Highway 80 in Jacumba Hot Springs on or before April 25. James is registered as a “Sexually Violent Predator” with the California Department of Justice and the County of San Diego. The classification is based on felony convictions for kidnapping in addition to lewd and lascivious acts against children under (14) years of age between 1981 and 1985. The victims were primarily female minors, but there were also male child victims. James served several years in state prison for his crimes.

He is scheduled to be released from the Department of State Hospitals-Coalinga any time prior to April 25 and has a lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender.

The Sheriff’s Department, The District Attorney’s Office and The SAFE Task Force are not responsible for the selection of Jame’s placement location. The selection process was the responsibility of the California Department of State Hospitals and the Superior Court of California.

James is not wanted by the Sheriff’s Department at this time. California Penal Code Section 290, also known as “Megan’s Law,” permits law enforcement agencies to warn the community about sex offenders who frequent the area. The purpose of this notice is to allow members of the public to protect themselves and/or their children from sex offenders.

The Sheriff’s Department said the notification is not intended to induce fear; rather it is their belief that an informed community is a safer community.
