Vista, CA–Two suspects were arrested on suspicion of the fatal shooting of a 71-year-old man in Vista on Friday, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
The Sheriff’s Department dispatch received a distress call on reports of a person down just after 8 p.m. near State Route 78 and the Sycamore Avenue exit in Vista.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the victim receiving medical attention from paramedics. Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly before 9 p.m. The victim, Bryan Robert Hugo, a resident of Vista, was shot at least once, authorities said.
Coinciding with the distress call, a California Highway Patrol vehicle in the vicinity noticed a suspicious vehicle, possibly linked to the shooting. The CHP officer initiated pursuit of the vehicle, which led them eastbound on SR-78 into San Marcos. The pursuit ended with the apprehension of the vehicle’s two occupants.
The suspects, Joseph Freddy Cedillo, 19, identified as the driver, and his passenger, 18-year-old Jamal Alexander Solis, were taken into custody.
Cedillo was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of murder, while Solis faces charges of accessory after the fact.
Both suspects are currently being held pending further investigation.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward. At this time, no further details are being released to the public.
