San Marcos, CA–The Sheriff’s Department is investigating a vehicle collision that sent a teenager to the hospital with major injuries Thursday morning, authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m. on South Rancho Santa Fe Road, just south of San Marcos Boulevard.
Sheriff’s Department dispatchers received multiple calls informing them that the teen had been struck by a vehicle and was lying in the road.
San Marcos Fire Department responders arrived and began administering medical aid to the victim, a 16-year-old girl, who was then transported to the hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries, the Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.
The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the Sheriff’s traffic investigators.
According to investigators, the driver was traveling northbound on South Rancho Santa Fe Road, nearing the intersection at San Marcos Boulevard, when the teen crossed the road and was struck. The road was closed for several hours during the investigation.
Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident, and the investigation remains active.
