Oceanside, CA–A residential fire, which broke out early Thursday morning in the garage, may have been caused by a lithium-ion battery, fire officials said.
The Oceanside Fire Department responded to the fire at 613 Tangier Court, where flames erupted from a garage at 4:15 a.m. A neighbor alerted authorities after noticing smoke and flames, prompting a swift response.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and contained and extinguished the garage blaze. The incident mobilized a full response, with two additional fire engines, a ladder truck, a paramedic ambulance, and a battalion chief arriving to assist. The occupants of the home were evacuated.
Crews secured the electricity and used a ventilation fan to clear smoke from the two-story house and its garage.
A fire investigator at the scene confirmed suspicions that a lithium-ion battery might have been involved.
The Oceanside Fire Department took the opportunity to remind the community of the importance of safety measures in emergencies. They advise residents to close doors to contain fires and reduce potential damage. They also issued a timely reminder about battery safety using the C.H.A.R.G.E. acronym: Choose certified products, Handle with care, Always stay alert, Respond quickly, and Educate others.
