Oceanside, CA – The Oceanside Police Department, in collaboration with neighboring law enforcement agencies, will conduct a Driver’s License and DUI checkpoint in Oceanside on Friday.
The checkpoint will operate from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location determined by data on impaired driving-related crashes, police officials said.
The primary goal of the operation is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road and educating motorists about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Officers will also check that drivers are properly licensed.
Authorities noted that while alcohol is often linked to DUI arrests, prescription medications and cannabis can also impair drivers. Although adults 21 and older may legally possess a limited amount of cannabis in California, it remains unlawful to drive under its influence.
Motorists arrested for DUI face serious consequences. A first-time offense carries an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, in addition to a suspended license.
The checkpoint is funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
