Oceanside, CA–Authorities seized more than 100 pounds of suspected illegal vape and smoke shop products during a multi-agency compliance operation conducted Thursday, according to the Oceanside Police Department.
The operation was carried out in coordination with agents and task force officers from the Drug Enforcement Administration Carlsbad Resident Office, agents with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and detectives from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Marijuana Enforcement Team.
Investigators conducted compliance checks at four vape and smoke shops across the city. During the inspections, officers seized a large quantity of products believed to contain controlled substances and other regulated materials, including items suspected to contain psilocybin, THC and kratom.
The suspected illegal products were confiscated and removed from circulation, authorities said.
Four individuals were found to be in violation of state regulations and will face administrative penalties and fines issued by the state.
In a statement, James Nunnallee said vaping devices can pose risks to public safety.
“Vaping devices threaten our public safety. Oftentimes, youth don’t know what is hiding in these devices,” Nunnallee said. “DEA is dedicated to keeping the community safe and drug free.”
Officials said the enforcement effort reflects ongoing cooperation among local, state and federal agencies to ensure businesses comply with state laws and to prevent the unlawful sale of regulated or controlled substances in the community.
