Oceanside, CA–The Oceanside Police Department has launched a new public safety initiative, Connect Oceanside, a camera-registration and emergency video-sharing program powered by Axon Fusus.
The Real-Time Crime Center Cloud platform is designed to give officers critical, real-time information to support investigations, improve emergency response times, and enhance community safety.
As part of the program, residents and business owners may voluntarily register their security cameras with the department through a secure online portal. The registry creates a real-time map of available cameras that investigators can use to identify potential evidence, reducing the need for door-to-door canvassing and allowing officers to focus on solving crimes more quickly.
Registering a camera does not give police live video access. Instead, it provides investigators with location information. If a crime or incident occurs near a registered camera, officers may contact the owner to request access to the recorded footage. Any video provided will remain confidential and will be used only for criminal investigations or emergencies, the Oceanside Police Department stated.
The department is also offering an optional upgrade that allows camera owners to share live video only during emergencies. The feature, enabled through a small CORE device, allows real-time viewing in critical situations such as active threats. Participants maintain full control over when and how their cameras are accessed.
Connect Oceanside is part of a broader effort to modernize police technology. The Axon Fusus platform integrates public and private video with tools such as LIVE911, computer-aided dispatch, officer geolocation, body-worn camera footage and social media monitoring, giving officers enhanced situational awareness.
