Oceanside police clarify role in federal arrest operation

By Gina Yarbrough

Oceanside, CA–The Oceanside Police Department is addressing public concerns following its brief presence during a federal law enforcement operation on July 2 in the area of Las Vegas Drive and Carolyn Circle.

According to Oceanside Police, federal agents requested a limited police presence to maintain peace after executing a federal arrest warrant. In response, the department dispatched two officers and a supervisor to monitor the scene solely for public safety purposes.

Officers remained on-site only for a short time and did not assist in the arrest or participate in any immigration enforcement activities.

The Oceanside Police Department released a statement on the incident:

“We want to be clear: OPD was not a participant in this federal operation,” the department stated. “We do not engage in immigration enforcement, nor do we assist in such efforts.”

The department stated in response to concerns raised on social media, emphasizing its compliance with California state laws, including the California Values Act (SB 54). The law restricts the use of local law enforcement resources for immigration enforcement.

The Oceanside Police Department reaffirmed that it does not inquire about individuals’ immigration status and remains committed to transparency, accountability, and community trust.

“Our presence at the scene was solely to uphold our responsibility to ensure the safety and security of the neighborhood,” the department added.
