Carlsbad, CA–A man was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Carlsbad early Saturday morning, authorities said.
A Subaru crossed the road and collided with a Nissan pickup truck at 5:20 a.m. at the intersection of La Costa Avenue and Piraeus Street, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.
The Nissan’s driver, the sole occupant, was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.
The Subaru’s driver, identified as 33-year-old Philip Webb of Oceanside, was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury or death and vehicular manslaughter. Webb was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
Police said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
