Escondido, CA– Two people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at a checkpoint conducted by Escondido police on Friday, authorities said.
In addition, 18 drivers were cited for driving without a license, and 3 were cited for driving on a suspended license.
The checkpoint was held at El Norte Parkway and Ash Street between 6 p.m. and midnight. Of the 2,643 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint 931 motorists were contacted.
Escondido police say DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of the checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
The Escondido Police Department will hold another DUI and Driver’s License checkpoint on May 2.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
