San Diego, CA–A mother and two grandparents have been charged in connection with the child abuse death of an 11-year-old girl in Spring Valley, prosecutors said.
Leticia McCormack, 49, was the girl’s mother and is charged with murder, three felony counts of torture, and three felony counts of child abuse. If convicted she faces up to 25 years-to-life, plus two additional life terms in prison. Adella Tom, 70, and Stanley Tom, 75, are the victim’s grandparents. Stanley Tom is charged with murder, three felony counts of torture, and three felony counts of child abuse. If convicted, he can be sentenced to up to 25 years to life, plus two additional life terms in prison. Adella Tom is charged with three felony counts of torture and three felony counts of child abuse. If convicted, she faces two life terms in prison.
“Our office has a specialized division that prosecutes crimes against children,” said San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan said. “We are dedicated to fighting for justice for innocent children, including those who cannot speak for themselves.”
A readiness hearing and bail hearing have been set for November 16, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for November 28 at Superior Court in East County. Deputy District Attorney Meredith Pro is prosecuting the case.
