SANTEE–A man driving a stolen vehicle Tuesday led authorities on a traffic pursuit in San Diego county.

On Feb. 6, just after 2:30 p.m., a man carjacked a vehicle at 501 Greenfield Drive. Deputies spotted the stolen vehicle

had been stolen during the carjacking earlier in the day.

Deputies attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on the westbound 52 freeway just west of Mast Blvd.  The driver failed to yield and deputies pursued the vehicle.

The man drove from westbound 52 to northbound 805 onto northbound 5. While northbound I-5 the driver side swiped a vehicle. During the pursuit the man changed his speed from 15 to 100 miles per hour and changed lanes in an effort to evade capture.

ASTERA arrived overhead around northbound I-5 at Del Mar Heights Road. CHP attempted but was unsuccessful to deploy a spike strip. Traffic became heavy and ASTREA took over following the suspect so units could back off for public safety.

Deputies were in the process of transitioning the pursuit over to CHP when the man exited at Palomar Rd. He drove into a small cul-de-sac and stopped his vehicle. The man refused to comply with commands and a beanbag round was deployed into the rear window of the vehicle. The man then exited the vehicle and followed commands. He was taken into custody without further incident.
