Encinitas, CA–A man was killed after his vehicle crashed into a tree in Encinitas on Friday, authorities said. 

The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. in the 1900 block of North Coast Highway 101.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene and found a vehicle had crashed into a tree. Deputies and paramedics attempted life-saving measures on the 52-year-old driver. Despite their efforts, the man died from his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the man was driving on North Highway 101 when the vehicle left the road and struck a tree. 

The cause of the collision is under investigation and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved.
