Vista, CA–A man in Sheriff’s Department custody died at a local hospital Saturday in North County,
On Saturday, Sheriff’s Homicide investigators were notified that 43-year-old Zeke Davis, an individual in Sheriff’s custody, passed away around 3:30 p.m. at Tri-City Hospital in Vista.
“We extend our sympathies to the Davis family and those affected by his death. A Sheriff’s Family Liaison Officer will support the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one,” the Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.
Zeke Davis, a resident of Oceanside, was arrested by the Oceanside Police Department on June 28 for resisting arrest, battery on a peace officer, and violation of a temporary restraining order. He was transported to the Vista Detention Facility for booking.
During the booking process, Davis was medically screened by Sheriff’s staff who determined that he should be transported to the hospital for follow-up. When he arrived at the hospital, medical staff evaluated Davis and admitted him to the hospital for a pre-existing medical condition. He was provided care and remained at the hospital until the time of his passing on July 8.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the Citizen’s Law Enforcement Review Board was notified of the incident.
As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit will conduct a thorough investigation.
The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
