BONITA–Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man accused of negligent discharge of a firearm Sunday in Bonita.

Shortly before 4 a.m., Bonita and Rancho San Diego deputies responded to numerous reports of shots being fired in the 5400 block of Robinwood Road.

Deputies arrived and located shell casings and live rounds in the driveway of 5435 Robinwood Road. Deputies detained nine residents and conducted a security sweep of the residence in order to check for victims and/or suspects. While deputies were performing the security sweep approximately ten shots were heard outside. Deputies saw a Hispanic male flee on foot westbound along a trail parallel to State Route 54. Deputies gave chase and temporarily lost sight of the suspect. San Diego Police and Chula Vista Police arrived to assist and establish a perimeter. Due to the nature of the call a request was made to the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail. After approximately fifteen minutes of searching for the suspect he was located by a Sheriff’s canine and taken into custody. A firearm and a magazine were also located nearby.

There are no reported injuries to victims. The investigation of the shootings is ongoing.
