SAN DIEGO–Interstate 805 (I-805) northbound High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane and Direct Access Ramp (DAR) at Carroll Canyon Road are open to traffic today, Caltrans and SANDAG said Thursday.
The southbound carpool lane and southbound DAR are expected to open the following week.
Crews Wednesday night striped the northbound off-ramp to the DAR and northbound carpool lane from State Route 52 (SR-52) to Mira Mesa Boulevard.
The DAR will enable carpools, vanpools, motorcycles, and solo drivers in permitted clean air vehicles to enter and exit the newly-built carpool lanes without weaving through the general purpose lanes.
Users of the HOV lanes will experience reduced congestion and improved travel time. Additionally, the new lane completes a continuous 13-mile long HOV lane from SR-52 on I-805 to Manchester Avenue on Interstate 5.
The construction cost for Stage 1 was approximately $119 million and is funded with state, federal and local sources, including the Proposition 1B State – Local Partnership Program and TransNet Extension funds.
