Encinitas, CA–Four people were arrested Sunday night on suspicion of driving under the influence at a checkpoint conducted by the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station in North County, authorities said.

Deputies conducted the DUI and driver’s license checkpoint on June 30 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. in the 1800 block of South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas. 

According to data released by the Sheriff’s Department, a total of 600 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, 196 vehicles were sent into the checkpoint, 22 vehicles were sent to secondary for evaluation, and 12 vehicles were for DUI evaluations.

In addition, one driver was cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed, and three other drivers were cited for other vehicle code violations including driving with an open alcoholic beverage container. Two vehicles were also towed. 

Funding for this DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
