Firefighters contain Oceanside apartment fire

By Gina Yarbrough

Oceanside, CA–Firefighters from Oceanside and Carlsbad contained a residential fire at the Villa Camino Apartments in Oceanside on Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.

According to the Oceanside Fire Department, the resident was not home when the blaze broke out, but received an alert from an indoor security camera. The resident was able to view live footage confirming a fire inside their unit.

The Oceanside Fire Department received calls, just after 1:30 p.m., of a fire at one of the units at the apartment complex at 2051 Geneva Street. Crews arrived at the location and extinguished the blaze to prevent it from spreading to neighboring units. The flames caused damage to the living room.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Oceanside Fire Department.

Officials reiterated key fire safety precautions, reminding the public never to attempt to extinguish a growing fire on their own. Instead, residents should evacuate immediately, ensure everyone is out safely, call 911, and wait for firefighters to arrive.
