Oceanside, CA–Fire crews knocked down a smoldering structure fire Friday morning at an abandoned house along North River Road in Oceanside, fire officials said.

Fire crews from Oceanside, Vista, North County and Camp Pendleton responded to a report of smoke and possible fire around 11:09 a.m. in the house.

Upon arrival, fire crews found gray smoke coming out of a small, boarded-up single-story home in a field. They gained access to the house by removing the boards from windows and doors to extinguish the fire. The cause of the smoke appeared to be smoldering objects indicative of human activity on the floor, which had burned through the wood. The house was overhauled to ensure no further fire damage would occur. Crews secured the structure for the owner.

No firefighters or bystanders were injured. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
