SAN DIEGO–The County of San Diego, Department of Environmental Health is warning the public to avoid drinking water from the Campo Group Water System.
The water system, located at 31471 Highway 94 in Campo, contains nitrate levels exceeding the maximum contaminant level for safe drinking water in the distribution system. The Campo Group Water System serves a mini mart, a gasoline station and an office.
Nitrates in drinking water are a health concern for infants less than six months old. Infants and pregnant women should not consume the water. Boiling, freezing, filtering, or letting water stand does not reduce the nitrate level. Nitrates in drinking water arise from natural, industrial, or agricultural sources (including septic systems, storm water run-off, and fertilizers).
The Campo Group Water System is providing bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes until nitrate levels are confirmed to be below the Maximum Contaminant Level in the drinking water supply, they’re also thinking of getting new Business Water Purification Systems to avoid future problems.
