DEL MAR–Northbound Jimmy Durante Boulevard in Del Mar will remain closed to vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians after inspections by geotechnical engineers on Wednesday concluded that a bluff remains unstable after failing on April 21.

The westward movement of soil and vegetation means that northbound Jimmy Durante Boulevard between Luzon Avenue and David Way will remain closed for an unknown duration. A detour route for northbound vehicles and bicycles includes Camino del Mar, Via de la Valle and southbound Jimmy Durante Boulevard. To mitigate traffic back-ups, flaggers will be stationed on Camino del Mar at the 22 and 27 street intersections between 4 and 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Geotechnical engineers continue to monitor the bluff failure’s creep and are developing plans for temporary and permanent repairs. City officials are working with affected private property owners to begin soil and debris removal.
