San Diego, CA–More than 800 San Diego households displaced by the January floods will transition from the County’s Emergency Temporary Lodging program by May 11, County officials said.
According to the County of San Diego, more than 400 participants have not yet applied for FEMA assistance. About 169 households have not responded as of March 29. The households who remain unresponsive risk becoming ineligible for the program. The County will send letters starting April 2 to notify ineligible participants, giving them seven days to transition.
County officials say over 6,000 individuals and households have registered for FEMA assistance, with 2,299 already approved, totaling over $17 million in financial aid. Program participants are grouped into categories requiring transition within seven days, 14 days, or by May 11 based on their circumstances.
Households needing to transition within seven days are those without a FEMA registration, code of conduct violations, lack of documentation for home impact, or failure to submit insurance claims. Those moving in 14 days are deemed safe to return home by FEMA. Others may stay until May 11 to find permanent housing.
