CARLSBAD–A 59 year-old female bicyclist was fatally struck in a vehicle collision Wednesday morning in downtown Carlsbad.
Carlsbad police officers say the traffic collision occurred in the 4600 block of Carlsbad Boulevard between Sequoia Avenue and Tierra Del Oro Street. It was reported that a vehicle and a bicyclist had collided.
The bicyclist was traveling southbound in the bike lane and for an unknown reason, swerved into the number one lane of travel and was struck by a Ford Fiesta driven by a 64-year-old female motorist also driving southbound on Carlsbad Boulevard. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will identity and release information on the bicyclist once notifications have been made.
