CARLSBAD–Two transients were arrested in Oceanside for attempted murder of another transient in Carlsbad, authorities said Tuesday.
Oceanside police have taken into custody 36-year-old Hakim Nadear Hudson and 66-year-old Mario Lucas Pinto.
On Tuesday at 6:43 a.m., Carlsbad police received a call to check the welfare of a man who appeared to be injured in the 2400 block of Carlsbad Boulevard, between State Street and Mountain View Drive. Police officers found the 49-year-old white male in the 2500 block of State Street.
The victim reported to officers that he got into an argument with two transients of his acquaintance. In an effort to extort information out of the victim, also a transient, the duo tied him up, assaulted him, threatened him and doused him with gasoline. The victim gave the suspects information so they would leave.
The victim was transported to the Tri-City Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. The extent of his injuries are unknown.
Officers investigating the incident began a two-city search for the two men. At approximately 10:45 a.m., with the assistance of Oceanside police officers, the men were found in the 3200 block of Production Avenue in Oceanside.
Hudson and Pinto were arrested for attempted murder, threats of violence, assault with a weapon and assault with great bodily injury.
The investigation into the incident in ongoing.
