SAN MARCOS–A male who made a 9-1-1 call to Sheriff’s deputies stating his cousin had been shot by an unknown male suspect was arrested at Palomar College, Sheriff’s Department officials said Tuesday.

About 6:23 a.m., the Sheriff’s Communication Center received the call from Luis Bolanos 23, who stated that he was driving to Palomar College with a loaded handgun.

According to deputies, Bolanos stated that he intended to shoot deputies in an apparent suicide-by-cop. Bolanos described himself, including clothing he was wearing and provided his current location on the campus.

Deputies from San Marcos, Vista and Valley Center responded to the scene and established a perimeter around the campus. Shortly afterward, Bolanos was contacted near the western edge of the campus and taken into custody without incident. Bolanos was in possession of a loaded firearm. He was booked into Vista Detention Facility.

No victims were found on the campus and there has been no confirmation that Bolanos’ cousin was injured. The campus was closed for the winter break.

The investigation of the incident is on-going.
