Oceanside, CA–Oceanside police detectives arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a man who spray-painted gang graffiti near Balderrama Park on December 9, authorities said. 

On February 2, Oceanside resident Joshua Parker was taken into custody and charged with the murder of 29-year-old Carlos Gutierrez.

On December 9, 2022, at 4:08 p.m., the Oceanside Police Department received a call of an adult male spray-painting gang graffiti near Balderrama Park located at 709 San Diego Street. While officers responded, the caller reported numerous gunshots in the area, and a male was down in the street.

At 4:12 pm, officers arrived on the scene and located Gutierrez, who suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers began lifesaving measures on him, but he succumbed to his injuries.
