San Diego, CA–Mission Bay RV Resort kicks off the summer season with the opening of 147 new campsites to the public on July 1.
Once the site of 169 dilapidated and abandoned mobile homes, the long-anticipated project makes way for improved coastal access and affordable camping on San Diego’s coastline in the Northeast corner of De Anza Cove.
“Being in the business of helping families create cherished memories for more than 50 years, we’re thrilled to offer new, affordable camping options on San Diego’s coastline in time for summer,” said Jacob Gelfand, Chief Operating Officer of Terra Vista Management, which also operates nearby Campland on the Bay and Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort in Newport Beach. “We’re proud of our work to clean up the De Anza Cove peninsula and make it safer and more accessible for San Diego residents, visitors, and wildlife to enjoy for years to come.”
Estimated to cost over $8 million, Mission Bay RV Resort’s comprehensive cleanup project kicked off its final phase in February 2023, safely removing 169 mobile homes from the property after abatement of asbestos and other hazards. Additional improvements include the cleanup of overgrown landscaping and the repair and enhancement of the coastal bike and pedestrian path, which will reopen later this summer.
Referred to as Mission Bay RV Resort – North, the 147 new campsites are located near the Mission Bay Golf Course and will expand much in-demand, coastal recreation access in the near term as the City finalizes long-term plans for Northeast Mission Bay. The North Resort’s spacious, new campsites are rustic and unpaved, offering full hookups for RV and tent camping and picturesque views of De Anza Cove and the public beach.
The resort’s newly renovated amenities include a pool and spa, a clubhouse with games and a lounge area, and additional laundry facilities. All guests have access to the amenities and entertainment at nearby Campland on the Bay, accessible through the Mike Gotch Memorial Bridge bike and pedestrian path.
For guests who are new to camping or do not own an RV, Mission Bay RV Resort has a directory of local RV rental companies listed on their websites that will deliver a sanitized RV to the site, all hooked up and ready to enjoy. RV arrangements must be made directly through rental companies.
