Del Mar, CA–The San Diego County Fair is going to the dogs—in the best way possible.
Pet owners and their furry companions are invited to take part in the Fair’s Pet-tacular Pooch Fun Run on July 5 at the fairgrounds in Family Funville, located in the infield area.
Presented by Southpaw Vet, the event runs from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m., giving participants a unique chance to stroll or jog with their dogs through the fairgrounds before the gates open to the public.
There are two course options:
- A ½-mile route with photo ops in the scenic Paddock
- A full 1-mile route, which includes a memorable photo opportunity in front of the iconic Big Wheel in the Fun Zone
All registered participants will receive a bib and a finisher’s medal, and registration for the run is now open at sdfair.com. Each dog must be registered individually under their owner’s name. As a bonus, those who register in advance will also receive free admission to the Fair on a day of their choosing (pets cannot attend the Fair outside of the designated event).
After the run, participants can stay for a post-run celebration, featuring a dog-themed vendor village filled with products, accessories, and services for pets and their owners. While the full Fair won’t be open during the event, food concessions will be available.
Pet owners can bring their creativity and join fun contests—no pre-registration is required. Categories include:
- Best Costume
- Most Beautiful
- Most Handsome
- Dog and Owner Look-Alike
- Dog Child Look-Alike
- Most Talented
- Best Tail Wagger
- Cutest Little Dog
- Cutest Senior Dog
- Fluffiest
- Loudest Bark
The event is one of many pet-friendly features planned for the Fair’s pet-themed 2025 celebration, created in partnership with the San Diego Humane Society. Expect exhibits, educational displays, and opportunities to see, adopt, and learn more about pets throughout the fair season.
While pets are welcome at designated events like the Fun Run, general admission of animals to the Fair is not permitted, due to safety and comfort concerns for both animals and guests. ADA service animals are welcome.
