San Diego, CA–La Jolla Music Society, which owns and operates The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center (The Conrad) in downtown La Jolla, announced the launch of its new Resident Companies at The Conrad program, welcoming four of San Diego’s premier performing arts organizations into an inaugural three-year residency beginning in the 2025–26 Winter Season.
The first Resident Companies at The Conrad will be Art of Elan, Bach Collegium San Diego, Camarada, and Mainly Mozart—each celebrated for their distinctive artistic voices and significant contributions to San Diego’s cultural landscape, particularly in the areas of chamber and classical music.
This initiative was developed by La Jolla Music Society Artistic Director Leah Rosenthal and Director of Artistic Rentals and Partnerships Juliet Zimmer as part of an effort to realign The Conrad’s rental program with one of the organization’s key goals: establishing The Conrad as a vibrant cultural and community hub. In addition to supporting that vision, the program provides meaningful opportunities for partner organizations to present their work in a world-class performance venue.
“As founder and Artistic Director of Bach Collegium San Diego, I’m thrilled for BCSD to be a Resident Company of The Conrad,” says Ruben Valenzuela. “This invitation from La Jolla Music Society marks an exciting step forward. The Conrad as a venue, with its exceptional acoustics and world-class setting, will truly elevate our concert experience.”
In support of the Resident Companies at The Conrad program, La Jolla Music Society will provide a range of benefits to its partner organizations, including marketing support, early access to the booking calendar, and a fixed venue rental rate for the duration of the three-year partnership.
“The Conrad was purpose-built to highlight the intimacy and expressive power of chamber music—from the acoustical brilliance of The Baker-Baum Concert Hall to the flexible, informal energy of The JAI,” says Rosenthal. “With the launch of our new Resident Company program, we’re proud to welcome four outstanding organizations—Art of Elan, Mainly Mozart, Bach Collegium San Diego, and Camarada—into deeper partnership. Each contributes a distinct and compelling voice to the chamber music tradition.”
“Art of Elan is overjoyed to be partnering with La Jolla Music Society in this meaningful way,” says Kate Hatmaker, Art of Elan’s Executive and Artistic Director. “As an organization that’s been committed to building community through music for almost 20 years now, we applaud the LJMS board and leadership team for embracing this innovative and inclusive approach to programming.”
La Jolla Music Society contributes to San Diego’s cultural vitality year-round through a rich variety of presentations, including classical, jazz, global roots, contemporary music, and dance. LJMS owns and operates The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, a state-of-the-art performance venue that opened in 2019 in the heart of downtown La Jolla.
