Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg is returning to science fiction with a darker take on extraterrestrial life in his upcoming thriller Disclosure Day.
Universal Pictures released the film’s first teaser trailer, signaling a sharp tonal shift from Spielberg’s earlier alien-themed classics such as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The brief footage suggests a more ominous narrative, featuring unsettling images of wildlife, military operations, and seemingly ordinary people whose true nature is left in question.
Plot details remain largely under wraps, though additional footage could be released in the coming months.
The film is based on a story by Spielberg, with a screenplay by longtime collaborator David Koepp. Koepp previously wrote several major films directed by Spielberg, including Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Those films collectively earned more than $3 billion at the global box office. Koepp also penned the script for 2025’s Jurassic World Rebirth.
Disclosure Day features an ensemble cast led by SAG Award winner and Oscar nominee Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place). She is joined by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Josh O’Connor (Challengers, The Crown), Oscar winner Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, Kingsman franchise), Eve Hewson (Bad Sisters, The Perfect Couple), and two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo (Sing Sing, Rustin).
The film is produced by five-time Academy Award nominee Kristie Macosko Krieger (The Fabelmans, West Side Story), along with Spielberg under the Amblin Entertainment banner. Adam Somner and Chris Brigham serve as executive producers.
Spielberg remains one of the most influential and commercially successful filmmakers in the history of cinema. The top-grossing director of all time, his body of work includes Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones franchise, and Jurassic Park. He is a three-time Academy Award winner, earning Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture for Schindler’s List and Best Director for Saving Private Ryan.
His most recent feature, The Fabelmans, was released by Universal in 2022 and received seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Disclosure Day is scheduled for theatrical release on June 12, 2026.
