Paramount+ releases trailer for ‘Star Trek: Section 31’ at CCXP

By Gina Yarbrough

Paramount+ has released the official trailer for its upcoming original movie, Star Trek: Section 31, during a presentation at the CCXP convention in São Paulo, Brazil.

The anticipated film will premiere on January 24, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and other markets where the on-demand streaming service is available. Alongside the trailer, the official key art for the movie was revealed.

The film features Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, a character she originated in the first season of Star Trek: Discovery. In Section 31, Georgiou joins a covert division of Starfleet tasked with safeguarding the United Federation of Planets while confronting the unresolved sins of her past.

The movie boasts a star-studded cast, including Omari Hardwick (Power), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Emmy winner Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny and Georgia), and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry). Miku Martineau (Kate) joins the cast as a young Philippa Georgiou.

Star Trek: Section 31 is written by Craig Sweeny and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi. The film is executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, Craig Sweeny, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, and Michelle Yeoh. It is produced by CBS Studios in collaboration with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.

The Star Trek universe continues to expand on Paramount+, which is also home to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks, and the forthcoming original series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, currently in production. Fans can also stream all seasons of the acclaimed series Star Trek: Discovery, starring Sonequa Martin-Green, and Star Trek: Picard, featuring Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard.

Star Trek: Section 31 will be available for streaming in all markets where Paramount+ operates, with global distribution handled by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
