SAN DIEGO–The award-winning Bodhi Tree Concerts, the San Diego performance ensemble that performs intentional acts of kindness by presenting eclectic musical concerts raising funds for local nonprofits, celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2021—while continuing to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.

“We have all come to the end of a remarkable year with unprecedented challenges and uncharted waters to navigate,” says Diana DuMelle, co-founder and director of Bodhi Tree Concerts. “We miss our audiences and making music for them live and in person. Still, we are very proud to have presented our entire 2020 season digitally for free.

“We are forging ahead with optimism and great enthusiasm, with our season 2021 —which will be our 10-year anniversary! We are excited and prepared to celebrate this milestone season either online or live, in whichever circumstances state mandates allow. Next year is obviously going to be unlike any other year we have experienced, but as always, we will present the world-class local talent and eclectic programming San Diego has come to expect from Bodhi Tree Concerts.”

The tenth anniversary season begins in March with a Broadway Cabaret starring the very talented Nancy and Geno Carr. Geno returned home to San Diego earlier this year from performing in the hit musical “Come From Way” on Broadway.

Local jazz legends Anthony Davis on piano, Mark Dresser on bass, and Michael Dessen on trombone will perform a jazz concert in April. Davis, a multi-talented artist, just won a Pulitzer Prize for his opera “Central Park Five.”

The season in May continues with the start of a new tradition: “The Best of Rodgers & Hammerstein,” followed by the return to Bodhi Tree Concerts’ free outdoor festival Music en la Calle in June. September brings a celebration featuring dozens of BTC’s most favorite artists to mark the company’s tenth year of intentional kindness through music.

Finally, to close the year, BTC’s wildly popular traditional annual production of “All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914” will be back at the Veterans Museum at Balboa Park. Bodhi Tree Concerts produced the San Diego premiere of “All is Calm” in 2016 and have presented it each year since until the COVID pandemic thwarted the company’s plans to bring it back in 2020.

For the 2021 tenth anniversary season, Bodhi Tree Concerts will be offering season tickets. If live performances are possible, season ticket holders will have priority seating. If it remains impossible to gather in person, the concert will be streamed live into the comfort of your home.

“We also ask that you consider making your end of the year donation to Bodhi Tree Concerts,” says DuMelle. “Now, more than ever, artists need us, and we need them! The overwhelming majority of our earned and donated income goes directly to pay artists fees. We are proud of this model and know that you will feel great about it too. Please be as generous as you can and keep Bodhi Tree strong as ever as we begin our second decade of presenting intentional acts of kindness through music, featuring San Diego’s finest local artists!”

More dates, venues, and artists to be announced. Subject to change.

Season tickets are $80 for access to, or premium seating at, four regular concerts.

Tickets for “All is Calm” are $30 and are not included with season tickets. They may be purchased at the same time as season tickets. Discounts are available for students and military. Tickets and subscriptions can be purchased online at www.bodhitreeconcerts.org
