Bonsall, CA — A vegetation fire that ignited Monday afternoon in Bonsall has been fully contained, according to fire officials.
The fire, named the Mission 2 Fire, broke out around 2:48 p.m. near South Mission Road and State Route 76, quickly spreading across 15 acres and prompting mandatory evacuations for residents south of La Canada Road. Evacuees were directed to Bonsall Elementary School as a temporary shelter.
Cal Fire and San Diego County Fire responded, deploying both air and ground crews. Aircraft dropped fire retardant while firefighters on the ground worked to stop the spread. Roads in the immediate area were temporarily closed as crews gained the upper hand.
Fire crews successfully contained the blaze shortly before 8 p.m., prompting officials to lift all evacuation orders. Residents were allowed to return home, and all roads in the area were reopened to the public.
Crews remained on-site into the evening to strengthen containment lines and mitigate any remaining hazards.
