San Marcos, CA–The City of San Marcos broke ground October 5 on its fifth fire station, marking a major investment in public safety aimed at improving emergency response times and expanding fire and emergency medical services.
The groundbreaking ceremony included a ceremonial check presentation from Assemblymember Dr. Darshana Patel, highlighting $1.2 million in state funding to purchase a new fire engine that will be housed at the station.
Fire Station 5 will be built at the southeast corner of North Las Posas Road and Armorlite Drive. The new facility is expected to improve emergency response coverage in western and northwestern San Marcos, strengthening the city’s ability to respond to fires, medical emergencies and other incidents.
The $25 million project is being funded through Measure Q, a one-cent local sales tax approved by San Marcos voters in November 2024. The measure supports city services and efforts to keep San Marcos clean, safe and well-maintained.
The station will be staffed by a fire captain, a fire engineer, two firefighter-paramedics and an emergency medical technician. The facility will house the new fire engine and an ambulance, increasing the department’s capacity to handle both fire suppression and emergency medical calls.
City officials say the project represents an important step in expanding San Marcos’ public safety infrastructure and ensuring firefighters have the facilities, personnel and equipment needed to serve the growing community.
The San Marcos Fire Department is a Class 1 full-service department serving the city and the San Marcos Fire Protection District. Its service area covers approximately 33 square miles and includes about 95,000 residents.
The department provides fire suppression, rescue and emergency medical services, fire prevention and vegetation management.
