Escondido, CA–A man riding an electric motorcycle died Thursday afternoon when he collided with a police vehicle pursuing him, according to authorities.
The crash occurred on the bike path along the flood control channel that runs east and west between Valley Parkway and Washington Avenue.
An Escondido police officer attempted to stop the motorcyclist in the area of Valley Parkway and Rose Street. The motorcyclist did not yield, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The collision occurred on the bike path east of Midway Drive.
Because the crash involved an Escondido police vehicle, investigators with the Oceanside Police Department assumed the investigation per a mutual agreement.
The identity of the motorcyclist is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
