San Diego, CA–San Diego County Credit Union hosted a series of Free Fuel Friday events on March 20 at gas stations throughout San Diego County, surprising drivers by filling up their tanks at no cost in an effort to support local communities and ease everyday living expenses.
The inaugural Free Fuel Friday resulted in the credit union’s covering the cost of gas for 2,109 gallons, impacting 191 members of the community.
“Gas is an essential expense that impacts nearly everyone in our community,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Campbell. “As a not-for-profit financial institution and member-owned credit union, we understand the burden rising costs create on our members and the community. SDCCU was pleased to be out in the community and offering relief during a time when many families are feeling the strain of everyday expenses.”
Free Fuel Friday is the latest addition to San Diego County Credit Union’s Random Acts of Kindness initiative that brings unexpected acts of kindness and support to members of the community. The initiative reflects the credit union’s ongoing commitment to putting people before profits and supporting the communities it serves. During the events, the credit union team members randomly selected vehicles and covered the cost of a full tank of fuel, creating unexpected financial relief during a time when gas prices continue to rise. This offer was open to all members of the community, not just San Diego County Credit Union members.
